No matter what industry you are in, to achieve high quality standards and meet legal production requirements, manufacturers need to handle ingredients safely and accurately. Ingredient development therefore involves improving desirable characteristics by using techniques or processes to achieve a product form designed for a specific application.
At Gabbia, a deep and fundamental understanding of bioengineering and processes optimizes the production efficiency of our ingredients and ensures their safety and precision. We bring to our ingredients an outstanding combination of high viability, stability and strength.
For maximum effectiveness, our ingredients are developed in such a way as to be protected from the environment and from the effects of thermal, mechanical and physicochemical challenges, as well as to increase their shelf life.
The production of Gabbia’s ingredients involves two manufacturing processes in particular – freeze-drying and micro-encapsulation.
- In freeze-drying, our ingredients are frozen and subjected to a high vacuum. The low pressure and temperature conditions involved in this process become crucial in preserving their bioactivity. Thus, we maintain the original biological properties of the microorganisms and obtain ingredients of the highest quality, with a longer shelf life and that do not require refrigeration.
- Gabbia’s proprietary, patent-pending microencapsulation technology allows the use of one or more layers of protection (coating), varying according to the purpose of use or application.
This unique coating allows the formation of a highly versatile and biocompatible protective matrix, which ensures the integrity of the protected microorganisms against factors such as temperature, pH or possible damage caused by mechanical stress in its use, and enables the controlled release of the microorganism at the appropriate site of action.
